July & August 2009: Alzheimer Champions

One of my favorite movies I watched last year was Sarah Polley's Away From Her based on Alice Munro's New Yorker short story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain". Julie Christie's vulnerable performance is stunning, and the quiet way this raw story unfolds makes you want to sit a little closer to people who are coping with this disease on a daily basis.

I loved the letter read by Olympia Dukakis at the beginning of the movie, championing the Alzheimer cause. Immediately I bookmarked Alzheimer's Association as one of my future XOXO Dogs blog campaigns.

So for the months of July and August 2009, Hint Jewelry will donate 10% of all profits to the Alzheimer's Association. If you haven't seen Away From Her, it's definitely worth adding to your Netflix list. If you want to become an Alzheimer Champion, they are looking for 5 million to join the cause (one person for every American living with the disease). Right now they are still shy of hitting 2 million people. Be sure to check out the the Alzheimer's Association to learn more and go on a tour of your brain.
